  2. A spot urine in a plain container (for phosphate/creatinine ratio). Request for phosphate and creatinine.

Sample stability:

Reference Intervals

Units: mmol/d

Reference ranges: 10 - 40 (Varies greatly with intake)

Conversion factors: mg/100 mL x 0.323 = mmol/L
mmol/L x 3.096 = mg/100 mL

Uncertainty of Measurement: 6%

Turnaround Time: Within 3 hours
Assay Method

Principle : Colorimetric

Reagents: Roche PHOS2 kit

Analyser: Cobas c702

Diagnostic Use and Interpretation

Renal tubular disorders and hyperparathyroidism increase phosphate excretion.

For further information see Tubular Reabsorption of Phosphate (TRP).

Urine phosphorus and urine phosphate are interchangeable, as phosphate is the only form of phosphorus in significant amounts in urine.
