Diagnostic Use and Interpretation
- The Donath Landsteiner test is used to identify the presence of a biphasic haemolysin which is an IgG antibody, usually with anti-P specificity.
- A positive test is characteristic of paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria (PCH). It can be secondary to viral infections, especially mumps and congenital syphilis.
