Diagnostic Use and Interpretation

Lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV) is an uncommon sexually transmitted infection which is seen only sporadically in Western countries. However, in recent years there have been outbreaks in the USA, UK and Europe. Cases have been almost exclusively amongst men who have sex with men and the majority of the cases were in HIV positive patients. Patients with LGV require a longer course of treatment than is standard for non LGV Chlamydia infection.
