Bronchial washings (preferable).

Induced sputum.

Sputum. (minimum 4mL)
If possible, please try to get the specimen to the laboratory before 1:00pm and notify the laboratory that it is being sent.
Turnaround Time:
Routinely performed on weekdays (8:00 am - 2:00 pm)
Three hour turnaround time for urgent specimens.
Notify the laboratory if URGENT
Diagnostic Use and Interpretation
This test is validated for use only on induced sputa and BAL fluid. When the test is performed on expectorated sputa the sensitivity maybe compromised. This needs to be taken into account when interpreting results.
