Diagnostic Use and Interpretation

FGF (fibroblast growth factor) 23 is involved in regulating phosphate balance. Raised levels in serum are seen in oncogenic osteomalacia.

Requests for FGF 23 measurement will be vetted by a Labplus chemical pathologist before being sent to Australia for testing.

The clinical indication for the test must be written on the request form.

Requests from Endocrinologists will be automatically approved.

Sample collection

EDTA blood only

Sample Preparation

Centrifuge and freeze EDTA plasma .

At least 0.5mL EDTA plasma required

Transport to LabPlus

Send frozen at -20oC to LabPlus


The request will be vetted by a LabPlus Chemical Pathologist before sending to Australia

Request form with clinical details and contact details of requesting doctor must accompany the sample .
