Memory and Naive B-Cell Markers

Specimen Collection

Heparin

4 mL Heparin Blood

Dark green top Heparin tubes are required ,

light green top PST Heparin tubes(containing gel) are NOT suitable.

or


Micro-heparin

1 mL Paediatric Micro-heparin Blood

Dark green top Heparin tubes are required ,

light green top PST Heparin tubes(containing gel) are NOT suitable.

For samples sent to LabPlus from outside the Auckland region:
  • Sample collection as above, transport at room temperature.
  • Sample age limit for testing to be completed is 24 hours.


Reference Intervals

3 subsets of B-cells have been identified with the following phenotype:

  1. Naive B-cells , CD19+CD27-IgD+
  2. Memory B-cells (unswitched), CD19+CD27+IgD+
  3. Memory B-cells (Switched), CD19+CD27+IgD-

Reference Range:

Naive B-cells 57.7 - 79.7 %
Memory B-cells (unswitched), 8.7 - 18.7 %
Memory B-cells (Switched) 5 - 21 %

Diagnostic Use and Interpretation

Common Variable Immune Deficiency (CVID) is a heterogeneous group of immune deficient disease. The underlying immunological defect of this syndrome is unknown. CVID patients are characterised by low levels of immunoglobulins and normal to low B-lymphocyte levels.
