Diagnostic Use and Interpretation

Often markedly decreased in acute pyogenic meningitis, tuberculous meningitis , cryptococcal meningitis , primary amoebic meningoencephalitis , and mumps encephalitis .

Slight decrease in non-bacterial meningoencephalitis and subarachnoid haemorrhage.

Increased if serum glucose increased.
