International recommendations suggest Macroduct samples are stable for 72 hours after collection if stored at 4oC. LabPlus analyses sweat samples every week on Thursday.

NOTE: results on samples received more than 72 hours post collect may not be reported.

Sweat analysis is normally performed on a Thursday. Sweat guidelines recommend samples should be analysed within 72 hours of collection.

  • Chloride shows better discrimination between CF and non-CF than sodium.
  • Sweat chloride increases with age. Values >60 are occasionally seen in subjects over 10 years of age.
  • A chloride value above 160 mmol/L suggests contamination or laboratory error.
  • For sweat collected by the Gibson and Cooke method, a minimum of 75 mg of sweat is required.
