Sickle Cell Test

Specimen Collection

This test should be carried out on as fresh a sample as possible.

Normal = No Sickle cells seen



Turnaround Time: Within 1 day

If urgent, please contact the laboratory on ext 22065 (out of hours ext 22069) and a provisional diagnosis can be made available in 1 hour.


Diagnostic Use and Interpretation

Sickle cells detected in patients with sickle cell trait and sickle cell anaemia.

The genotype of the patient should be determined by further haemoglobinopathy testing.
