Diagnostic Use and Interpretation

This test uses DNA profiling to determine the contribution of donor or recipient DNA within a blood or bone marrow sample (although conceivably any sample from which DNA may be extracted could be used in this test, including blood enriched for Lymphoid (CD3+) cells (see link below)) after a patient has undergone a bone marrow transplant.  The DNA profiling is performed using a panel of usually 16 different loci. A percentage contribution is calculated for each loci and the average is taken to give the percentage donor and/or recipient content.

DNA Chimerism studies will be required following a sex-matched bone marrow transplant. Please submit a second CPD tube with the Donor Storage specimen, if this service is clinically indicated.
If a bone marrow transplant is sex-mismatched, FISH chimerism studies should be considered instead.
