Lymphocyte Subsets
Also known as : [B and T cell Markers],[CD8],[Immune Deficiency],[Immunodeficiency Markers]

Blood
Test performed by: LabPLUS Cell Markers

For Investigation of Immunodeficiency

The absolute numbers of CD3 (total T lymphocytes), CD4 (T helper lymphocytes), CD8 (T suppressor/cytotoxic lymphocytes), CD 19 (B lymphocytes) and CD 56 (NK lymphocytes) positive cells may be determined by flow cytometry in the Cell Markers Section of the Haematology Laboratory.

Routine Service: Monday to Friday
Limited service on a Saturday. Samples must be received at LabPlus by 11am on a Saturday. Samples received after this time will not be tested.
This service will not be available on a public holiday, or weekends associated with public holidays.
For weekdays prior to a public holiday, specimens must be received at LabPlus by 2pm to allow testing.
Request for urgent testing outside these hours must be approved by the laboratory Immunologist on-call.

Specimen Collection
For samples collected within the Auckland region:

2 mL Adult Heparin Blood (Preferred)
Note: PST (light green cap) tubes are not suitable.

0.5 mL Paediatric Heparin Whole Blood (Preferred)
2 mL Adult EDTA Blood
0.5 mL Paediatric EDTA Whole Blood

Heparin blood samples are preferred as they are stable up to 48-hours
EDTA blood samples (2mL adult or 0.5mL paediatric) are acceptable only if received by the laboratory within 20-hours after collection.
ACD tubes are adequate but not preferred. Ensure ACD tubes are completely filled with blood.

Samples outside Auckland region:

Sample collection as above.
Transport at room temperature (do not refrigerate).
Sample age limit for testing: 48-hours (Heparin), 24-hours (EDTA).
