Circulating Immune Complexes (CIC) is present often in patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) especially where vasculitis is implicated. Levels of CIC have been reported to show correlation with disease activity in that higher levels are reported during active phases of the disease. No single procedure appears to detect all types of CICs, however the use of C1q and C3d fragments to detect CIC appear to detect clinically relevant events.
In serum sickness, which is the prototype Immune Complex Disease, positive C1q CIC results are obtained. This assay detects immune complexes containing both C1q and IqG.For further information contact the laboratory (09) 307 4949 ext 22000 or:
