CSF Neurotransmitters

Test performed by: LabPLUS Support Services transport this to a 3rd party for testing


LabPlus Specialist Chemical Pathology analyse tube 1 for lactate, and tube 2 for amino acids. Tubes 3-5 are sent to Biochemistry, Westmead Children's Hospital, for HVA, 5-HIAA, Pteridines and other tests eg. 5-MTHF.

Specimen Collection

CSF - Special tubes are ESSENTIAL for this test.

Request tubes from laboratory - phone 09 307 4949 ext. 22016 about 45mins in advance of CSF tap to arrange pickup of tubes on dry ice.  

Send tubes IMMEDIATELY after collection to laboratory on dry ice.    

Test requires 5 x 0.5 mL aliquots of CSF collected in a particular order. Please review collection instructions provided with tubes.
