Diagnostic Use and Interpretation

Reptilase is a thrombin like enzyme isolated from the venom of the snake Bothrops atrox. Reptilase converts fibrinogen to fibrin but is not subject to the effects of heparin. The Reptilase Time is used to confirm the presence of dysfibrinogenaemia, or in the investigation of a prolonged thrombin clotting time where the cause is not established by more economical tests.
