Fanconi Anaemia Testing

Specimen Collection

Patient and control samples to be arranged by the requesting clinician.

All specimens must be collected on Monday mornings only, and must reach LabPlus no later than 11.30am to be in time for the courier.

Please contact the laboratory before, and on the morning of the collection to arrange for laboratory staff to pick up the sample.   

  

Specimens must be accompanied by a referral form clearly stating:


2xHeparin4 mL 2xHeparin Blood (Always Required)

Note: If the White cell count is below the normal reference range, an additional lithium heparin tube is required. 


2xHeparin4 mL 2xHeparin Blood (Always Required)

Control Sample:

A control sample is required to assist with the validation of the results.

Assay Method

Testing for Fanconi Anaemia is performed by Mitomycin C (MMC) stressed cultures; using blood samples from the patient with an appropriate sex and age matched control.


Diagnostic Use and Interpretation

This test is performed by Wellington Regional Genetics Laboratory, Wellington Hospital.  

Please contact the LabPlus Cytogenetics Laboratory at least a week before to arrange testing.  

 

The samples must reach Wellington Regional Genetics Laboratory within 24hrs of collection as the test needs to be set-up on Tuesday.
