Diagnostic Use and Interpretation

The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) is the lowest concentration of an antimicrobial agent that will inhibit the visible growth of a given isolate. This concentration is reported in mg/L. The MIC can be determined using the microbroth or agar dilution method, or by commercially available gradient diffusion strips.
