Aspergillus Serology

The laboratory tests which are helpful in confirming a diagnosis of Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis (ABPA) are listed below:

Investigation of Allergic Bronchopulmonary Aspergillosis requires both Aspergillus Specific Ige and Aspergillus precipitin assays.

Aspergillus PCR

Aspergillus precipitins

Skin Sensitivity Test

Specific IgE

Interpretation

Specific  to Aspergillus (positive Aspergillus skin prick test or specific IgE/RAST) is a requirement for diagnosis. Most patients have  total serum IgE levels of > 1000kIU/L. Total serum IgE levels vary with disease activity. Aspergillus precipitins (which are IgG) are found in the sera of many patients with ABPA, as well as in patients with invasive aspergillosis.
