Specimen Transport Instructions for Referring Laboratories

Sample collection

• Samples outside of Auckland region to be collected Monday to Wednesday  but ensure samples will be able to get to LabPlus by Friday 1400. Should not be collected on weekend days / public holidays.
• Samples can be taken by heel stick.
• Instruct collector to mix  samples well.
• Samples to remain at room temperature (do not refrigerate).

Sample dispatch

• Transport at room temperature (do not refrigerate).
• Do not spin.
• Sample to be sent to LabPlus, Auckland City Hospital.
• Sample to be sent by urgent direct courier if being sent from outside of Auckland.

  Notify Cell Marker section Haematology LabPlus (09 307 8995 ext 22061) once sample has been dispatched.

If concerns, contact the on call paediatric immunologist at Starship Children's Hospital, Auckland City Hospital, through the operator on 09 367 0000 ^* , or the Newborn Screening Laboratory LabPlus on 021745847 during working hours (Monday to Fridays, 0800 - 1700).
