Pyruvate CSF
Short Description : Pyruvate

CSF
Test performed by: LabPLUS Special Chemistry

Specimen Collection

SPECIMEN:

2.0 mL is the recommended volume;  a minimum of 0.6 mL of CSF is required, but this is insufficient for a duplicate analysis (recommended).

Only applies to samples collected at AKH.

Send on ice within 5 minutes to the laboratory.

Please arrange with the laboratory prior to sending the specimen.

As pyruvate is unstable, falsely low levels may be seen if samples do not reach the laboratory on ice, within 5 minutes of sampling.

Reference Intervals

Units: mmol/L

Normal range: 0.06-0.19

Uncertainty of Measurement:    8%

Assay Method

Principle:   End point colourimetric

Reagent:   In-house reagents

Analyser:    Indiko Plus

Specimen Transport Instructions for Referring Laboratories

CSF samples must be deproteinised within 5 minutes of collection and stored at 2-8C.

Deproteinisation should be performed in duplicate where possible.

Deproteinisation procedure:

To a plastic pilot tube add:

                                1mL of 0.6mol/L Perchloric acid

                                0.5mL of sample

                                Mix well

Please indicate on form whether deproteinisation has been performed.
