For Investigation of Immunodeficiency

Lymphocyte Subsets is always performed with the Lymphocyte Function Assays unless there are specific instructions not to do this.

Lymphocyte function may be determined by a number of in vitro and in vivo tests. The options are:

In vitro functional assays (response to mitogens and antigens)
In vivo functional assays (response to recall antigens)

Specimen Collection

Normal working hours: Mon - Fri 0800 - 1730. Urgent samples outside of these times   by arrangement.
on Friday and the last working day prior to a public holiday, samples should be received in the laboratory by 1200.

4 mL Heparin Blood
Dark green top Heparin tubes are required ,

light green top PST Heparin tubes(containing gel) are NOT suitable.

Specimen must arrive at LabPlus within 24 hours

DO NOT REFRIGERATE

For samples collected outside of the Auckland region:

Sample collection as above.     Transport at room temperature.

Reference Intervals

IN VITRO FUNCTIONAL ASSAYS:

The proliferative response to non-specific mitogens (PHA, PWM, CON A and T3) and specific antigens (Tetanus, Diphtheria and Candida) can be measured.

Stimulation Index

Mitogens: Normal       > 5.0

Antigens: Normal        > 3.0

Turnaround Time: Within 2 weeks
